Sean Hannity has long been one of the top hosts at Fox News. Now, he has shocked his fans by announcing that he will be branching out into the movie world, as he is planning to produce a faith-friendly movie starring Hercules star Kevin Sorbo.
“It’s been likened to Ghost meets Heaven Is for Real, with a dash of God’s Not Dead,” Sorbo said of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hannity will be executive producing the film with Sorbo in the starring role as a world-renowned atheist whose beliefs are dramatically challenged. This comes after Sorbo starred in the Christian film God’s Not Dead, the surprise hit that made $61 million domestically on a $2 million production budget and spurred a sequel, God’s Not Dead 2, which made $21 million.
Though this is Hannity’s first foray into filmmaking, insiders say it won’t be his last, as he is already pursuing other projects as well. He is slated to reveal more about this particular project on his show on Wednesday night, when Sorbo is scheduled to be a guest.
The movie is called Let There Be Light, and it will also star Sorbo’s wife Sam, who co-wrote the script with Dan Gordon. The couple’s young sons will also be in the movie, so this truly is a Christian family film.
“They blew me away with their auditions,” said Sorbo. “Then Sam and I, as producers, realized the amount of money we had just saved by casting our own kids.”
Sorbo has been making Christian films for years now, and though it could limit his opportunities in Hollywood, he says he has no regrets.
“Hollywood can be a very superficial place but then again, so is the world,” Sorbo said. “I choose not to focus on whatever negatives that might arise from my taking a stand for what I believe in, because our beliefs are what make us human. I couldn’t be the actor I am without knowing what I stand for.”
We can’t wait to see Sean Hannity’s first movie!
